Christmas preparations were still taking place at Farnham Mill as we continued to make decorations as well as enjoying some festive ‘pig racing’.  We had a glamorous photo shoot with our residents wearing Christmas props as well as taking part in a traditional church service, enjoying Christmas theme bingo, word games and singalongs.

Monday 18 December, arts and crafts were being enjoyed on the ground floor.  Decorations were being made with colourful tissue paper to look like stained glass windows.  They looked very effective and sparked lots of conversations.

We had a busy afternoon watching our Christmas Pig Racing whilst enjoying afternoon tea.  We all cheered on our favourite pigs with their Christmassy names such as Bauble, Tinsel, Stilton and even Crackers!  Sausage rolls, crisps and mince pies were our tasty treats enjoyed with a nice cup of tea.

Tuesday 19 December, we enjoyed an opportunity to dress up and have a Christmas photo taken.  It was great fun trying on reindeer antlers, Santa hats and even fur coats.  Our ladies looked especially glamorous.

In the afternoon one of our favourite entertainers, Terry Owens, performed Christmas songs for us and we all got the chance to join in singing with him.

Wednesday 20 December, we played ‘Guess the Christmas song’.  The intro of a Christmas song was played and we all had to guess what it was.  This proved to be great fun and a chance to sing our favourite Christmas songs.

In the afternoon Hill House hosted a Christmas fayre for residents of all four homes, so we popped along to take part and join in with the fun and make lots of new friends.

Meanwhile at Farnham Mill cake decorating was taking place.  We tried to make our cupcakes look like Santa hats, we certainly enjoyed eating them!

Thursday 21 December, with all the eating we have been doing we thought we would start the day with some chair-based exercises.  We all stretched and marched along to songs which made it seem so much more fun.

In the afternoon we had our usual Thursday flower arranging group which is also a great way to socialise and meet up with other residents over a cup of tea and cake.  As it was Christmas, we also had mince pies and mulled wine.

Friday 22 December, we had a ‘Guess the Christmas Smell’ game.  Cloves, cinnamon as well as pine were all sniffed and got us guessing.

A Christmas church service also took place on our second floor with residents being able to sing traditional carols with the choir from Badshot Lea and Hale parish.

In the afternoon we sat down for an afternoon tea with different Christmas cakes from around the world.  There was Panettone, Stollen as well as chocolate Yule Log.  They were all delicious.

A chance to celebrate a lovely gentleman s birthday with his family also took place in the afternoon.

Saturday 23 December, we played a sensory game of trying to guess what was in ‘Santas Sack’ by feeling.  There were all sorts of things to find by just feeling – remote control, spoon, egg cup, shuttlecock.

Another birthday was celebrated, presents were given, cake eaten and family time enjoyed.

Saturday afternoon and we played a game of musical Christmas bingo with chocolates to enjoy as we played.

Sunday 24 December – Christmas Eve – as it was quite mild, we enjoyed a morning walk and a chance to admire our lovely Christmas tree outside.

A game of Christmas hangman was played, and all the words were associated with Christmas – from sprouts to frankincense.  It certainly got us all thinking and working together to solve the puzzle.

In the afternoon we had a Christmas treats trolley touring the home with Christmas cards from Waverley Abbey School for all the residents, as well as sweets, mince pies and mulled wine.
