About Us

Farnham Mill Nursing & Dementia Home is a family-run concern

The first home, Woodlands in Church Crookham was established in 1976 when Gillian Lee first started to look after her Grandmother, when she was unable to find alternative suitable residential accommodation for her.

As that proved to be a success Gill, a trained Nurse, decided to take in more residents. She had an extension built to her home and the rest, as they say, is history. Hill Brow in Ewshot, Farnham was purpose designed and built in 1986.

Alison, her daughter, also trained as a Nurse and holds a degree in Nursing from City University / St Barts Hospital, London with a Diploma in Elderly Care. She left the NHS as Ward Manager of an elderly care unit at The Royal Free Hospital when she assumed control of both homes following her mother’s retirement in 1998.

Since 1976, the family’s commitment has been to provide the very best care for the elderly, whatever their needs. The family are still  involved in the daily activities, and Alison’s daughter Anna has been working in the homes for the last 5 years. So, we may be looking forward to a third generation of the family to lead the way!

Meet the Lee family who have specialised in elderly care for over 50 years

For over 50 years, the family’s commitment has been to provide the very best care for the elderly, whatever their needs. This has been paramount and has been rewarded by achieving Excellent status in numerous CQC inspections and Environmental Health inspections.

Hill House opened in August 2011, followed by Farnham Mill in June 2018. Both are state of the art purpose-built nursing and dementia homes. Here we aim to offer the highest level of care with the best facilities in a comfortable and friendly environment.

Farnham Mill Nursing & Dementia home continues the family’s tradition of the Sunflower Approach to delivering exceptional care for the elderly in Farnham.

Our Ethos

Farnham Mill is designed to bring new standards of comfort and care for the elderly in Farnham. Every feature and element of its design and ethos has been thought through to offer both a luxurious and stimulating environment.

It’s the Lee’s family belief that a nursing home is only as good as the staff who work there. At Farnham Mill we employ a significantly higher staff to resident ratio, meaning our staffing levels are amongst the best in the care sector. Every member of our staff shares our Sunflower Approach to care:

  • Loyalty
  • Adoration
  • Longevity

The Sunflower Approach at Farnham Mill is our unique, person-centred care ethos designed to deliver compassionate care for every resident’s needs and preferences. Our residents are cared for as if they were our own family, always putting the residents care, respect and dignity above all else.

With over 50 years experience and local knowledge we only want to employ the best nurses, carers and other members of staff. We invest in the training and development of our team and are proud to pay well above the Living Wage, reflecting our belief in adoration of our team, which results in achieving staff loyalty and longevity. These beliefs are one of the reasons we are a happy place to work and live in.

Farnham Mill opened in 2018 to carry on the family’s 50 year tradition of providing the very best care for the elderly in Farnham.

Careers and staff

At Farnham Mill, our staff are at the heart of everything we do for residents. Alison Lee often says, “A nursing home is only as good as the staff who work in it,” and this belief continues to shape our culture today.

Longevity

We are proud to have never used agency staff in over 50 years. The loyalty and dedication of our team is reflected in an average length of service exceeding 5 years.

Sahlee Epi is registered Home Manager and has been part of the group for over 15 years. Farnham Mill is not only a home to our residents but also a happy work environment and Sahlee has forged strong relationships with the team, residents and families. Sahlee was recently invited to meet the King in recognition of the group’s 50 years of dedicated dementia and nursing care.

Recognition

We were finalists in the National Care Awards 2025 for several categories: Care Home Group of the Year, Chef, Deputy Manager and ‘The Dignity & Respect Care Home of the Year.’

In 2018 we won the Inspire Family Business of the Year for Hampshire Award, for the way we have developed and promoted our staff within the homes. We were also awarded Investors in People Gold Award. This award recognises our commitment to our staff, their training and development.

Charities

Families Supporting Care was established in 2011 by the Lee Family and relatives of the residents of Woodlands and Hill Brow. Its aim is to help support residents whose circumstances have changed or whose money has depleted over time.

Over the last 10 years the charity has helped and supported over 60 different residents, from Aldershot, Farnborough, Farnham and Fleet to stay in their long term chosen care home, with the staff that they know in the home that they love.

Funds are raised through a number of regular social events held throughout the year in the four different homes. In addition to this the Lee Family and a number of relatives have donated to and supported the charity.

If you would like to know more about the charity, please talk to one of the home managers or if you would like to help, please contact Helen Gould the Charity Secretary on Helengould@hotmail.co.uk.
