Witches galore this week at Farnham Mill with pumpkins, ghosts and ghouls as we prepared for Halloween.  We painted pumpkins, played spooky skittles, Halloween bingo as well as making another Christmas cake with one of our chefs and taking time to sing along with Jayney, one of our performers.  We had such a busy week that we relaxed on Sunday afternoon watching a good film.

Monday 23 October and after a few games of balloon bounce, residents made Halloween decorations with paper plates.  It was a great opportunity to get creative.

In the afternoon, after a physio session, we enjoyed a Halloween themed afternoon tea, and there were plenty of witches around to serve us.

Tuesday 24 October and games of dominoes were being played around the home.  Some of our residents got quite competitive.  It is a great way to socialise as well.

One of our residents also had a lovely visit from their great grandchildren – all dressed up for Halloween.

In the afternoon, Annie’s cooking club was back on the programme, and we made some delicious scones which were later enjoyed with a cup of tea.

Wednesday 25 October and we had a delivery of pumpkins that morning, so our residents got creative and painted them, even our local vicar came to admire them.  We now have some very spooky pumpkins decorating the home for Halloween.

In the afternoon we had our regular music therapy session.  It’s a chance for residents to listen to the musical beat and interpret the music as they wish.

Thursday 26 October and there were delicious smells wafting around Farnham Mill as Steve, one of our talented chefs, engaged residents in helping him make a Christmas cake.  There was lots of mixing of fruit, flour, eggs, zesting of oranges, as well as a small amount of alcohol!

Those residents not cooking played a game of Halloween bingo.  There were lots of spooky images to find before we earned a prize of chocolate.

In the afternoon one of our favourite singers performed for us – Jayney, she had us all singing along and even had a dance or two.

Friday 27 October was a much more relaxing day with some pampering at the nail bar.  The ladies were so pleased with the colours of the nail polish.

In the afternoon we gathered for an afternoon tea.  This gives us an opportunity to meet and chat with other residents and family members are also welcome to join in.

Saturday 28 October and some residents played a game of spooky skittles.  We tried our best to knock over as many zombies as we could.  It certainly made us laugh.

Some of our residents also had their fortunes told.  Tarot cards were read by one of our activities co-ordinators and good news and family visits were on the cards for everyone.

In the afternoon residents were served Pumpkin Spiced Latte with biscuits and snacks.  A nice warm cup to ward off the chill from the rain.

Sunday 29 October and our regular library trolley toured the home visiting residents who like to read a book.  This week there were a few ‘spooky’ books for Halloween reading, as well as some magazines and puzzle books.  Sarah, our Activities Co-ordinator, had sourced two books for one of our residents who has a love of animals and ridden horses whilst working in the Middle East.  Our resident was very pleased and couldn’t wait to start reading them.

After such a delicious roast beef dinner residents were able to relax and enjoy a good film.  Marley and Me was the film on offer and popcorn and sweets were served by our ‘usherette’.
