What a delicious week to celebrate at Farnham Mill and we certainly enjoyed cakes and other baked treats as well as a trip to the garden centre, we played biscuit bingo and had one of our favourite singers perform for us.  There were also several birthday parties held for our residents. With the weather being so lovely, we also enjoyed spending time outside.

Monday 2 October, our morning started with word games in the main lounge area.  We were very pleased with how many we found.

After some group physio sessions in the afternoon, we gathered for afternoon tea and learnt many interesting facts about baking from our volunteer, Susie.

We celebrated a lovely gentleman’s birthday with his family and enjoyed more cake together.

Tuesday 3 October, to continue with our baking theme we decorated cupcakes.  Lots of colourful icing and decorations and we all agreed how pretty they looked, of course we had to taste them as well!

In the afternoon we went to the local garden centre and had a look around.  We were very surprised to see the Christmas decorations out on display already!

Wednesday 4 October, our music therapist, Gabrielle, held a group music therapy session as well as some one to one time with residents.  We were able to clap along to the beat and then play with some percussion instruments.

We had our monthly residents meeting with Alison.  It’s an opportunity to meet new staff, hear about future activities planned as well as voice any concerns we may have.  It is also great to see staff be awarded ‘Sunflower Awards’ for their hard work and dedication.

In the afternoon we had another afternoon tea with some of our favourite cakes freshly prepared by our chef.  We had lemon drizzle, chocolate, spiced cake and our beautifully decorated cupcakes as well.

Thursday 5 October,  baking isn’t all about cakes and sweet things so this morning we decided to make something savoury – cheese straws. They were so easy to make but also delicious to eat.

In the afternoon we welcomed Terry Owens to sing for us.  He presented roses to everyone and made us feel very special.  He even got all the staff doing the Hokey Cokey at the end.

At the end of his performance, he sang Happy Birthday to one of our residents who enjoyed a family birthday party later that day.

Friday  6 October, many residents enjoyed some creative painting.  Wedding cakes were the theme, and this sparked many conversations about our own wedding cakes in the past.

In the afternoon we enjoyed sitting and relaxing outside with a glass of wine or cup of tea, and even checked on our vegetables in the courtyard garden.

Saturday 7 October, we made flowers using cupcake cases as well as doing jigsaw puzzles and playing dominoes.

In the afternoon residents took part in a game of ‘Biscuit Bingo’.  This gave us the opportunity to talk about our favourite biscuits and which ones are good for dunking!

Sunday 8 October, as the sun was still shining, we enjoyed spending time in the garden.

We also had a party to celebrate another resident’s birthday.  What a special day to gather outside and share cake and best wishes.
