The pirates swash buckled their way into Farnham Mill this week with lots of ‘Ahoys’ and ‘Shiver me timbers’ as residents joined in the fun and enjoyed looking for treasure in chests they had made, making pirate faces out of paper plates, and playing pirate bingo.  We also enjoyed entertainment from Jayney, walks around our gardens and afternoon teas.

Monday 18 September and residents took part in music therapy in our activities room.  We enjoy group sessions as well as one to ones with residents in their rooms.  It gives us an opportunity to play with percussion instruments as well.

In the afternoon we had a pirate themed afternoon tea with a quiz all about pirates.  We learnt such a lot of fascinating facts, such there was a female pirate who had 1,000 ships under her leadership, and that Sir Francis Drake was, in fact, a pirate – although they called him a privateer!

Tuesday 19 September and there were pirate themed games being played around the home in the morning.

In the afternoon residents joined together to paint and decorate their own treasure boxes.  It was lovely to be able to sit together and chat about the colours and textures of our boxes.

Wednesday 20 September and we had a little trip out to the Lake House tearoom.  We admired the lake, saw some different water birds to those we have at Farnham Mill, and enjoyed a large slice of cake with our coffee.

In the afternoon we did what we do best at Farnham Mill – enjoyed an afternoon tea with a singalong and freshly baked cake.

Thursday 21 September and our Art Club gathered to make pirates out of paper plates.  We made some very cheeky chaps and were very pleased with the results.

Other residents played balloon games to exercise.  It is nice and gentle although we do get a bit competitive with each other.

In the afternoon we welcomed Jayney to sing for us.  We had a great time and were able to get up and dance along with her.

After her performance, we enjoyed some flower arranging and residents arranged them in vases to be displayed in our rooms and around our home.

Friday 22 September and some of our residents had hand massages whilst others took part in some painting making a pirate themed photo frame.

In the afternoon we celebrated a lovely lady’s birthday with her family and friends, we all shared some delicious cake.

Saturday 23 September and after some relaxing walks in the garden we joined together to play pirate themed bingo.  Great fun and some prizes for us to enjoy.

In the afternoon there was much laughter as residents enjoyed craft activities and painting.

Sunday 24 September and whilst some residents attended a local church service, others enjoyed pastries in the Sunday book club.

In the afternoon our activities team toured around the home with a pirate treasure chest, for residents to try and find ‘pieces of eight’ and other treasures.

Please follow our Woodlands & Hillbrow facebook page to see daily posts of the residents taking part in our activities.
