We’ve all got a favourite book and this week we were able to share our memories of the books we have read as a child, at school or in our adult life. We had several ‘book club’ gatherings as well as our library trolley visiting residents on Sunday. We enjoyed a performance from Natasha, walks in the garden and even harvesting some of our vegetables.
Monday 28 August our morning started with music, we enjoy our time with our specialist music therapist, Laura. It gives us a great opportunity to play percussion instruments as well as sing along to her playing on the piano.
Laura is also able to take her keyboard into residents’ rooms and have a one-to-one therapy session with residents who are not able to join in with group activities.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a cheese and wine tasting trolley. This had a great selection of cheeses for us to try and it toured around the home, so everyone had an opportunity to try some.
Tuesday 29 August, we started the morning with some exercises and ball games. It’s a great opportunity to get active as well as socialise and have fun. Other residents took part in wordsearches and crosswords before lunch.
In the afternoon we enjoyed Natasha performing for us. She sang some of our favourite songs and we all delighted in how she danced along as well.
Wednesday 30 August, we were very pleased to host a family birthday party for one of our residents.
In the afternoon a couple of our residents went to the garden centre in Badshot Lea. So nice to be able to pop out, look at the plants and enjoy an ice cream.
Thursday 31 August, our morning started with delicious fruit smoothies. A very healthy and fruity trolley toured all floors offering smoothies to everyone. We all agreed how tasty they were.
In the afternoon it was our regular flower arranging session. Another colourful activity and one we all love as we get the chance to chat and arrange wonderful flowers in vases which are put in our rooms and around the home.
Friday 1 September, our residents enjoyed hand massages and nail care. It’s chance to spend a bit of one-to-one time with our residents and enjoy a chat whilst being pampered.
A couple of our ladies played a game of Scrabble. Lots of concentration and referrals to the dictionary.
In the afternoon a group of men gathered in our activities room for a Gentlemens Book Club. With a glass of beer and a bowl of crisps they all enjoyed perusing the selection of books.
Saturday 2 September, we played word games in the lounge. As it was Book Week we tried to find as many words as we could from ‘Newspapers’ and ‘Library Books’.
In the afternoon we had another book club gathering and served a lovely afternoon tea. Sarah, one of our Activities Co-ordinators, brought in some modern children’s books and we all had a laugh as she read out ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. It was very different to our Enid Blyton books we read as children.
Sunday 3 September, we all agreed it had been a very busy week, so we had a relaxing day. Some residents were able to watch church services on laptops whilst the library trolley toured the home and residents could choose books to read. The sun was shining so we enjoyed walks in the garden. What a lovely way to end the week.
