This week gave us an opportunity to reminisce and chat about our favourite films and film stars.  We enjoyed all sorts of movie themed activities including, painting James Bond images, a Disney afternoon tea and the wonderful Natasha sang songs from the movies for us.  We celebrated National Biscuit Day on Monday with biscuit bingo, which of course, involved lots of biscuits being eaten.  The sun also shone, and we enjoyed spending time in the garden.

Monday 29 May, as it was National Biscuit Day, we started with a tasty trolley of biscuits touring the home.  A tasty treat as we read our papers and enjoyed cups of tea with them.  Conversations were had as to whether you should dunk or not!

In the afternoon biscuit bingo was played and this gave us the opportunity to chat about our favourite biscuits and whether they appeared on the bingo cards.

Tuesday 30 May, we started our day with walks in the garden.  A chance to feed the birds and check on the ducks in the pond.

Then residents enjoyed an art session, painting movie themed pictures.  It’s nice to take part in relaxing group activities as we get to chat and learn a little more about each other.

One of our lovely residents had a trip out to the local Starbucks for a morning coffee.

In the afternoon the lovely Natasha came and sang songs from the movies.  These included all our favourites as well as some we were not so familiar with.

Wednesday 31 May, some residents played movie hangman, this involved trying to guess the film title.  It had all our old favourites like Ice Station Zebra, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as well as films we watched with our children like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Scrapbooks were also being put together.  This is a great one-to-one activity and an opportunity to reminisce on the things we get up to at Farnham Mill.

In the afternoon we had a Disney themed afternoon tea.  Along with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Walt Disney was also famous for films such as Jungle Book and Lady and the Tramp.

Thursday 1 June, after a game of balloon bounce, we felt energised to have a go at another word game.  Trying to find how many words we could make from “Hollywood Actors”.  By the time it was lunchtime we had made 120 words and felt ready to enjoy our lunch.

Other residents enjoyed painting James Bond pictures.  This also stimulated conversations such as who our favourite Bond was – Sean Connery or Roger Moore.

In the afternoon we enjoyed arranging the flowers that are delivered weekly.  We are always so amazed at the wonderful colours and scents from the flowers, and it is a real joy to have them around the home.

Friday 2 June, we enjoyed a Spa Morning – lots of relaxing hand massages and nails being pampered around the home.

Other residents took part in exercise, which is an important part of staying fit and healthy.

In the afternoon residents were able to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea outside on the pontoon.  For those that didn’t want to be outside, afternoon tea was served in the lounges.

Saturday 3 June, we held a movie quiz in the morning.  This brought back memories of the films we used to watch and our favourite actors.

We also surprised a lovely lady with a birthday cake on her special day.

As the weather has been so wonderful lately, we also enjoyed what has become a regular feature on Saturday afternoon’s – an ice cream trolley that visits all floors.  This week we had ice lollies as well as Arctic Roll and ice cream tubs.

Sunday 4 June, our morning started with church services screened on TV for those that wanted it, whilst other residents enjoyed some relaxing painting.

After a delicious roast dinner, we had a movie in the activities room, the perfect way to end ‘Movie Week’.  Residents enjoyed a cup of tea with bowls of popcorn to share as they relaxed and watched the film.
