With the beautiful sunshine shining it was certainly a good week to be enjoying flower themed activities. We made flower collages, went through the alphabet finding flowers for every letter, had a flower themed afternoon tea as well as playing a game of flower bingo. We took a lovely resident to admire the plants and shrubs at the garden centre and also had the local Beaver group visit us on Thursday evening. And to finish off the week we enjoyed sitting outside with an ice cream, what could be better.
Monday 22 May, in the morning our wonderful music therapist was at Farnham Mill holding a lovely group session as well as a couple of one to ones with residents in their rooms.
We took the opportunity to do a few morning stretches, to get the blood circulating around our bodies in preparation for the busy week ahead.
In the afternoon we enjoyed an afternoon tea together. It’s a great opportunity to meet new residents and get to know one another and one of our wonderful volunteers organised a flower themed quiz as well.
Tuesday 23 May, after spending some time in the garden, we got creative with flower collages. Lots of pictures of flowers and plants were cut out and we stuck them onto images of flowers.
In the afternoon delicious smells were coming from the activities room as scones were being made by our baking group which is run by another of our wonderful volunteers. The best part is certainly eating them fresh from the oven with jam and cream.
Wednesday 24 May, we played word games in the morning. We had to see how many words we could make from ‘Flower Arranging’. We got 120 and thought that was the right time to stop for our delicious roast chicken.
In the afternoon we welcomed 2tanium to perform for us. A lovely duo who got us all singing along to our favourite songs. Students from Lord Wandsworth College also visited us for a chat. It was a great afternoon.
Thursday 25 May, at Farnham Mill our chefs are always around for a chat with our residents and to talk about the food on the menu that day.
We also saw some baby moorhens on our pond. We love seeing how the wildlife change each season.
We then got our brains working hard again as we had to go through the alphabet finding a flower for every letter. It certainly got us chatting about our favourite flowers and what we used to grow in our gardens.
In the afternoon we took one of our residents to the local garden centre in Badshot Lea to have a look around and enjoy a cup of tea.
Other residents enjoyed flower arranging. We were very pleased with our efforts and think they look lovely in vases around the home. One resident even had his son and grandson helping him.
In the evening the local Beavers visited us and told us all about what they do now. Our residents were very interested and loved chatting to them.
Friday 26 May, we enjoyed a relaxing morning of hand massages and nail painting. We were very impressed with the colours of the polish chosen.
After lunch we had a wonderful afternoon tea outside and the opportunity to celebrate a lovely lady’s birthday. We all enjoyed some birthday cake, and it was the perfect setting.
Saturday 27 May, some residents made birthday cards to raise funds for the charity ‘Families Supporting Care’. It’s a great opportunity to do a little craft activity and know that we are helping to raise funds as well.
We enjoyed having a game of Scrabble.
Other residents gathered round to sniff smells – they were, in fact, very pleasant floral scents and had us all guessing what the scent was.
In the afternoon a game of Flower Bingo was played, and we enjoyed bowls of sweets and cups of tea whilst trying to get a full house.
Later that afternoon we celebrated a wonderful gentleman’s birthday with his family. It’s so special to be included in these family celebrations. The weather was so warm, they were able to celebrate outside his room in the garden.
Sunday 28 May, after some morning walks in the gardens our regular library trolley toured the home. There are quite a few residents who enjoy a good book and getting to know whether they like romances, mysteries or historical fiction means we try to ensure that we always have suitable books to choose from.
Before our very tasty roast pork, residents also enjoyed sitting on our balcony. It was certainly the weather for sitting in the sun.
With this wonderful Bank Holiday weather, we decided to tour the home with our Ice Cream trolley. With a choice of chocolate, vanilla, pistachio, cornets and wafers, flakes and sprinkles, there was something for everyone. It certainly went down well with all our lovely visitors as well.
Don’t forget to ‘like’ and comment on our daily posts on the Woodlands & Hill Brow Ltd Facebook page. We also put video clips of singalongs as well.
