With the white frost in the mornings and dark skies it is certainly looking very Christmassy outside as well as inside. This week has been very busy finishing decorating our trees, wrapping presents and welcoming handbell ringers from More House School, as well as one of our favourite entertainers, Natasha, performing her Christmas show for us. On top of that we made mince pies and enjoyed them whilst watching a very traditional Christmas film, White Christmas.
Monday 5 December and we played games of Snowball Toss around the home. Thankfully they weren’t real snowballs and we stayed nice and warm inside. Other residents helped to make some bunting to finish off our decorating.
Tuesday 6 December and residents in the morning helped decorate one of our Christmas cakes. We certainly enjoyed modelling with marzipan and were very proud of our efforts.
In the afternoon Natasha came to sing for us. It was a very festive performance and we loved joining in, singing and dancing with her.
Wednesday 7 December and residents relaxed doing some colouring. It’s a lovely way to make sure we take time to sit and relax, enjoy a cup of tea and, of course, with it being Christmas, chocolate sweets were also on the tables.
In the afternoon we had our friends from Lord Wandsworth College visit and sing some songs for us. It was lovely and made us remember our days at school and the Christmas songs we would rehearse ready to perform for our families.
Thursday 8 December and we were pleased to welcome back Tim Straker who played Christmas Brass Band music for us and explained a little bit about each piece. This also brings back memories of brass bands playing at Christmas time as we joined in with carols.
In the afternoon we had a lovely visit from another of the local schools, More House School, Frensham made their annual visit to play handbells for us. We were very impressed with how well they played, and we were able to join in singing along.
Some residents enjoyed a visit to the local garden centre for a look at the Christmas displays and a cup of tea in the café.
Friday 9 December and after some walks outside in our gardens, it was time for a bit of pampering for the ladies as they enjoyed having their nails painted with glittery polish. It was a good day to get some presents wrapped.
Saturday 10 December and we had a busy morning making mince pies. We rolled out the pastry, cut it to fit in the tins and then filled with mincemeat. Our chef cooked them, and they were ready to eat in the afternoon whilst we watched a very traditional Christmas film – White Christmas. We all sang White Christmas at the end of the film and wondered how long before the snow falls in Farnham.
Sunday 11 December and more preparations were underway for Christmas. The making of table decorations for our Christmas dinner next week. We were very pleased with our efforts and think they’ll look very nice on the tables.
After that busy morning we all enjoyed a delicious roast turkey dinner with strawberry gateaux for dessert. A big thank you to our chef, it was very tasty.
