It’s been a busy week at Farnham Mill with the start of the 2022 World Cup where we were cheering on England and Wales and hoping to see them progress through the competition.  We enjoyed many sports themed word games, had a trip to the local garden centre and played a game of skittles with our friends from Woodlands as they came and visited us for afternoon tea.  We also enjoyed pig racing one afternoon and all the pigs took on the identity of sports icons.  We took it as a good luck omen that one piggy called ‘Bobby Moore’ won nearly every race.  Memories of 1966 came flooding back.

Monday 21 November and we love to begin our week with some exercises.  This is always a fun activity as we sing along as we do our stretching.  On the other floors they played balloon games which is also a great way to exercise as you reach for the balloon.

In the afternoon some residents enjoyed relaxing colouring, whilst others were busy watching England play in the World Cup.

Tuesday 22 November and we enjoyed morning walks checking on our ducks and the bird tables.  It’s also a chance for a bit of pampering in our hair salon.  We love Tuesdays when our own hairdresser, Teresa, visits Farnham Mill and sets our hair just the way we like it.

In the afternoon we played Musical Bingo, a great time was had singing along to all the songs, and then we sang happy birthday to one of our much-loved residents as we enjoyed a wonderful spread of cheese and crackers, along with a glass of sherry.

Wednesday 23 November and as the sun was shining some residents took the opportunity to go outside and enjoy the autumn air.  Others preferred to colour which is a very relaxing activity.

In the afternoon some residents enjoyed a trip to Squires Garden Centre in Badshot Lea for a wander round the pet department, a browse at the Christmas displays and then have a cup of coffee in the café.

Thursday 24 November and in the morning, we started off with more balloon games and then a sports word game.  This is a great way to get to know other residents as we work together to see how many words we can find.  We often have to get the dictionary out to check our spellings and make sure we’re not inventing words !

In the afternoon we had our regular flower arranging as well as a visit from our friends at Woodlands who came for afternoon tea and a game of skittles.  It was very competitive but great fun and as one of our residents has just moved from Woodlands to be at Farnham Mill, it was great for her to be able to catch up with friends.

Friday 25 November and there was a lot of excitement as our Christmas Tree which sits by the pond, was delivered.  Next week sees the start of all our decorations going up and lots of plans being made for Christmas.

Residents then worked together to solve the clues on our Giant Crossword.  This gave us a big appetite for our Friday fish and chips.

In the afternoon, we had our pig racing event.  As it was Sports Icons week all our pigs were famous sportsmen and women and we took it as a good omen for the World Cup that ‘Bobby Moore’ won nearly every race.  Good luck England.

Saturday 26 November and we started the morning with a word game in the lounge before enjoying a delicious Sports Icon theme afternoon tea with legends such as Henry Cooper, James Hunt, Virginia Wade and Bobby Moore.  This got us chatting about our favourite sports people and their many achievements.

Sunday 27 November and we had a relaxing start to the day.  Some residents watched the Church Service, whilst others had their nails done.  In the afternoon our knitters got together to chat as they clicked their needles and worked on ideas of what to knit for Christmas.
