Guy Fawkes week brought back many memories for our residents of firework parties held in our gardens and village greens, of Catherine Wheels and Sparklers and, of course, standing out with friends collecting a Penny for the Guy. We also had one of our great entertainers sing for us, lots of quizzes and games, decorating cupcakes and a great firework party on Friday with our friends, families and neighbours.
Monday 31 October and the start of another week at Farnham Mill saw residents having a morning walk outside and a chance to chat with our chef and see what’s on the menu today. Then we had a go at making firework pictures with toilet roll tubes. It was great fun and by adding some glitter they certainly looked like rockets exploding in the sky.
In the afternoon one of our wonderful volunteers did a Giant Crossword with residents. Lots of helping each other to work out the answers and it was very popular with residents.
There was also more craft going on around the home, this time bonfire pictures.
Tuesday 1 November and residents relaxed by doing a Guy Fawkes theme word search in their lounges.
In the afternoon we all enjoyed one of our favourite singers, Ray Lowe. He sang our favourite songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and all the other legends of swing. We had a great time dancing along.
Wednesday 2 November and we all had a go at decorating cupcakes and making them look like mini bonfires.
In the afternoon Louis played piano and we sang along with him. It’s a great feeling all coming together and singing our favourite songs.
Thursday 3 November and in the morning, we explored sensory games – our interactive table has many features including a rockpool with fish swimming. We like to try and touch them, but they are always too quick and swim away.
In the afternoon we had a lovely delivery of flowers and so we all set about arranging them into lovely vases. They do look and smell pretty in our rooms and around the home.
Friday 4 November and it was an energetic start to the day – table tennis which saw us getting competitive with each other and put us all in a good mood.
The afternoon saw a Firework theme cocktail trolley tour around the floors of Farnham Mill. Everyone enjoyed a ‘fizz and bang’ themed drink and got us in the mood for our evening firework display.
In the evening we grabbed our coats and blankets and joined our friends and family’s either on the balcony or outside for a wonderful firework display. Hot dogs and hot chocolate were enjoyed, and we all agreed the fireworks were amazing,
Saturday 5 November and we started the day with a lovely sing song – it really cheered us up and, in the afternoon, a delicious trolley visited everyone with delicious freshly made cake.
Sunday 6 November and one of our residents was able to visit the local church. Other residents enjoyed getting to know each other better.
