It was a very thoughtful week for the residents of Farnham Mill as we started the week with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II funeral on Monday. It was also a week where we celebrated birthdays, enjoyed a trip to the pub in the sunshine and came together for afternoon tea.

Monday 19 September and we all watched the funeral, either privately in our rooms, or together in the lounges with staff alongside us and snacks and drinks readily available.

In the afternoon residents were able to sign the Book of Condolence that will be sent to the Palace next week.

Tuesday 20 September and we played balloon games in the lounges. A chance to exercise and have a laugh.

In the afternoon residents did some relaxing painting or joined in with our baking club. This is always a chance to chat with other residents and have a cup of tea and freshly made scone.

We also enjoyed a delicious slice of cake when we celebrated a lovely gentleman’s birthday.

Wednesday 21 September and in the morning we did a word game before lunch and then played Musical Bingo. This was also a chance for us to sing along to our favourite songs.

Thursday 22 September and we had a lovely morning with a Brass Band Music appreciation session. Tim Straker came in and shared his love of brass band music with us. We thoroughly enjoyed this small group activity and will be planning a few more in the months to come.

In the afternoon, as the weather was so lovely, a group of residents and staff walked to the local pub – The Shepherd and Flock. It was so nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy a pint of beer or glass of wine.

Then later in the afternoon there was an opportunity to celebrate another birthday and we enjoyed birthday cake with a cup of tea.

Friday 23 September and we had a ‘Fruity Friday’. A lovely fruit trolley visited residents around the home to offer them fresh bowls of fruit. This is a great way to stay hydrated and have plenty of vitamins.

Saturday 24 September and as the sun was shining, we took the opportunity to sit outside and watch the ducks. They give us so much pleasure at Farnham Mill, there is always something to watch on the pond.

In the afternoon we all gathered for a lovely afternoon tea. We enjoyed cups of tea in our best china and a slice of delicious cake. It was also a chance to reminisce about our Queen and wonder how King Charles III will develop into the role.

Sunday 25 September and we enjoyed a pamper morning – relaxing hand massages and manicures were a lovely way to relax.

In the afternoon, with our hands all supple, the ladies in our knitting club got together for their ‘Knit and Natter’ session. Lots of casting on, and the click clack of knitting needles to end a very busy week.
