Residents at Farnham Mill spent time this week remembering our wonderful Queen. We took time to look at photos, watch the news and generally reminisce on how Her Majesty has been a big part of our lives. We were also able to enjoy one of our fantastic singers on Wednesday afternoon as well as having an RHS Wisley winner do a flower demonstration on Thursday afternoon. We were also lucky to spot our little deer in the garden again. It was such a busy week as we had some residents visit a local church on Sunday for a service, as well as another couple of ladies visit the local Starbucks for coffee.
Monday 12 September and we started the day with our early morning walks outside. It’s a lovely way to start the day and we like to check on the ducks on the pond. There is always something different to see. After that, as the Queen was the Head of the Commonwealth,
we tried to see how many words we could make from ‘Commonwealth’. We managed to find 100 before lunch. Other residents looked at the Queen on our interactive table which showed pictures of her past and present.
In the afternoon residents were treated to a Royal Cocktail Trolley visiting all floors. A chance to try something new and toast Our Queen.
Tuesday 13 September and we had a busy start with exercises and balloon games, along with a bit of pampering in the hair salon.
In the afternoon residents were able to do relaxing painting with pictures of the Queen. It was a chance to reminisce.
Wednesday 14 September and we enjoyed relaxing hand massages. Residents enjoy one to one time with our activities team as it’s a chance to chat and share stories.
In the afternoon we sang and danced along with Ray Lowe who performed some of our favourite songs including Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Thursday 15 September and ladies on the ground floor worked together doing a joint jigsaw puzzle, the aim was to complete before lunch but we spent so much time chatting that it took a little longer!
In the afternoon we had a very talented lady come to do a flower demonstration for us. Janet Arm has been an RHS Wisley winner, so we were very lucky to see her work for ourselves. She produced three wonderful arrangements for us which are displayed around the home.
Friday 16 September and we started the day with balloon games, a quick and fun way to exercise.
In the afternoon our friendly dog, Tinkerbell visited us. How we love having cuddles with her.
Saturday 17 September and our ladies were busy making wreaths for the Queens funeral. We used the colours for mourning – purple and black, and we have them around the televisions for the funeral on Monday.
We had a Royal Afternoon Tea party on Saturday. Residents sat together and enjoyed a cup of tea in our best china with a delicious cake or flapjack.
Sunday 18 September and a couple of residents visited the local church in Farnham. It was a very special morning for them.
In the afternoon another couple of residents visited the local Starbucks at Sainsburys. It was very interesting sitting in the café watching all the shoppers with their trolleys of food. It was a great way to end the busy week.
