A very busy, but fun week was spent celebrating Her Majesty the Queens Platinum Jubilee. Residents all over Farnham Mill joined together to celebrate with afternoon tea, singing, watching the Trooping of the Colour, Royal Cocktails and a fantastic Jubilee BBQ on Sunday. Even the Queen made a guest appearance.

Monday 30 May and our morning started with walks outside checking on the ducks and ducklings. We love seeing the little ones grow and to see how protective the ‘mummy ducks’ are.

Residents on the second floor helped make a wonderful collage of the Union Flag. We all had a go at sticking tissue paper on in red, white and blue to create the flag and had fun with a cut out of the Queen.

In the afternoon we had a go at decorating a cake and icing it in the colours of the Union Flag, of course, the best bit was eating it afterwards.

Tuesday 31 May and residents played games of Royal Guardsmen skittles and also made mini guardsmen using toilet rolls.

In the afternoon our baking club were very busy. Lots of beating eggs and whisking cream to make some lovely cupcakes and the Jubilee pudding. They all turned out well and tasted delicious.

Wednesday 1 June and there was more baking for residents as they baked and iced a cake for the Woodlands and Hill Brow Jubilee Bake Off. The four homes each baked a pudding or cake to be taken to Hill House for the competition and residents also went along to see the judging and enjoy an afternoon tea. It was a very memorable event and Farnham Mill won the most Royal Cake.

In the afternoon residents helped finish off decorating the home by putting bunting up.

Thursday 2 June and all residents wanted to watch the Trooping of the Colour on the television so this was shown in all three lounges. Residents also enjoyed our Royal Cocktail Trolley so they could toast the Queen when she appeared on the balcony. We had cocktails called Queens Quencher, Royal Rose, Jubilee Punch and Coronation Cocktail

In the afternoon it was our regular flower arranging club. Lots of flowers to arrange to have in vases around the home. This is always a popular activity.

Friday 3 June and we had a very relaxing morning reminiscing and looking at old photos.

We all looked forward to the afternoon as one of our favourite entertainers, Jayney, came to sing and perform for us. We love singing along and dancing and it was a great afternoon.

Saturday 4 June and in the morning, residents got together to decorate biscuits to be enjoyed later that day. Obviously, red, white and blue icing was used.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a tea party with lots of cups of tea and our beautifully decorated biscuits.

Sunday 5 June and we started the morning enjoying playing percussion instruments. It’s a great way to relax and have fun together.

We all gathered together for our Street Party lunch and BBQ. Tables were decorated, balloons were up, and everyone ready to enjoy a lovely lunch and toast the Queens 70 years as our Monarch.
