As we prepare to go into December residents at Farnham Mill have been very busy, from enjoying a few glimpses of sunshine outside, to painting, and singing together around the piano, and of course, celebrating St Andrews Day.    Its non-stop and as you can see below, lots of smiles on our residents faces, and a chance to enjoy a birthday celebration.

Monday 29 November and we like to start the week by keeping active.  We love playing with the balloon, it is light to hit but involves lots of stretching.  We get quite competitive and one of our ladies even managed to hit it into the lampshade – we decided that was a goal.

The afternoon was busy with family visits.  Its lovely for the residents to catch up with their loved ones and we even had a little dog visiting.

Tuesday morning and some of our residents reminisced about what games we used to play.  It was a chance to get the darts and other games out.

As it was St Andrews Day we enjoyed a ‘Scottish’ Trolley in the afternoon – shortbread and whiskey to try (I think even a bottle of Baileys sneaked onto the trolley as that is our residents preferred drink!).

We started Wednesday 1 December by looking at Traditions in December.  This gave us a lot to reminisce about such as our children writing letters to Father Christmas, putting a piece of silver in our Christmas pudding, and watching the Queens speech.  We also learnt new things like who invented Christmas Crackers and how popular it is now to go swimming in the sea on Boxing Day.  We don’t think we’ll be jumping into our Farnham Mill Duck Pond though on Boxing Day.

One of our lovely Care Partners also helped some of our ladies get started on their knitting.  They decided they were going to knit squares so they can be joined together to make a lovely colourful blanket.

In the afternoon Louis played the piano for us.  It’s a great opportunity to come together and we love to sing along.  It always brings back good memories from our past.

Thursday 2 December and some residents enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and sensory games.  It was a nice relaxing start to the day.

In the afternoon it was time for ball games.  Very popular with our gentlemen.

We also got the opportunity to celebrate one of our residents’ birthdays.  This is how we enjoy being part of one big family.

Thursday afternoon and our residents got together for our popular flower arranging club.  It’s a great chance to chat to friends as well as arrange the flowers to go around our home.

Friday morning and it was arts and crafts.  Everything was out from painting to sticking and making models.  A great opportunity to get creative.

In the afternoon we relaxed with books.  A nice quiet time after lunch.

On Saturday 4 December we gathered in the main lounge for colouring, puzzles and generally catching up together.  Its always nice to be able to sit together and chat.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea – we even got some lovely Christmas table decorations to make it look festive.

Sunday morning and whilst some residents watched the Sunday Church Service, others enjoyed walks out onto the balcony and others relaxed with puzzles.

We finished off the afternoon by relaxing in front of a film.  A great way to end a busy week.
