This week we have been reminiscing and celebrating Harvest Time. An English tradition, we shared memories of seeing crops in the fields and even tasted lots of apples and ciders on National Apple Day on Thursday.
Monday 18 October and we started with an energetic balloon game. It’s great for getting us stretching and reaching for that balloon and warms us up for a general knowledge quiz. Others preferred to take things a little easier and enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles together.
In the afternoon residents took part in a sensory guessing game. They had to identify what was in the bag by only feeling it. There were lots of funny suggestions to everyday objects.
A relaxing day on Tuesday as residents chose to do painting. This is something residents at Farnham Mill like doing in a group and involves cups of tea and lots of chatter. Our lovely hairdresser was also in so the ladies were able to get their hair done.
On Wednesday 20 October whilst some residents chose to do a Harvest quiz and reminiscing, others decided to be more energetic and played table tennis – there was quite a tournament going on.
On Wednesday afternoon residents enjoyed a rather delicious Afternoon Tea with our best tea sets and tablecloths. We felt like we were having tea at The Ritz. Our Activities Team served us with tea and cakes and also a quiz which was all about tea – we learnt that Earl Grey was a British Prime Minister.
Thursday was National Apple Day so our Activities team put together a ‘tasting trolley’. We had several different types of apple to try as well as some ciders. This brought back memories of apple scrumping when we were children.
On Friday, after a morning of Harvest word games we settled down to update our scrapbooks. It’s a lovely chance to look back on all the things we have done at Farnham Mill and stick new photos in. Other residents had a lovely walk around the grounds whilst the weather is still mild.
On Saturday we did a selection of painting, word games and puzzles. We always make sure there is a choice on offer.
Sunday was another relaxing day, some time outside and then after a delicious Sunday lunch, some residents painted their very own cups and saucers – not sure we’ll be drinking tea out of them though.
