It has been another busy week at Farnham Mill. It has been wonderful to Reminisce our Wartime Memories and to celebrate VE Day. The weather has been lovely so we managed to spend plenty of time in the gardens and courtyards. Of course, we still did all our normal quizzes, arts and crafts, exercise classes and so much more.
On Monday 4 May we started the week in Arts and Craft Club making bunting for our VE day celebrations. It looked lovely and we could feel the excitement grow as we put it around the home.
In the afternoon Elizabeth held a quiz outside as it was such a lovely warm afternoon. The theme was flags of the world and it also gave us the opportunity to reminisce about where we had travelled.
On Tuesday morning, after chatting about our wartime experiences, we put together a ‘storyboard’ of memories for everyone to read and look at. It was very interesting to hear how many of our residents remembered the street parties and celebrating VE day with their families. They all had different happy memories.
In the afternoon Pamela had a go on our typewriter – this certainly brought back some fond memories for her.
Wednesday morning saw us start the day with some balloon bounce. Its something we love to do as it’s a great way to exercise, but is also a lot of fun.
In the afternoon we had a little bit of pampering with our nails being done by the lovely carers.
And Monica took charge of the flowers making sure fresh vases went on all of our floors.
Thursday 6th May and Pat was busy colouring a lovely fabric bear. This is a great activity and she loved the end result which made a new addition to her room.
Thursday morning, some of us made use of our interactive table. This equipment is very popular and is often in use in the home. Sue, Jane and Norman completed a quiz – they did really well.
Afterwards Norman enjoyed a beer before lunch – which was well deserved.
Gwen and Michael enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air on the balcony.
Thursday afternoon saw Elizabeth do another one of her quizzes. They are proving to be very popular with our residents.
Friday 8th was a beautiful sunny day and just right for our VE day BBQ. Residents loved being outside and we made full use of our balcony too. The burgers were tasty and it was a chance to really celebrate and share stories with other friends.
Afterwards the Activities Team had a game for the staff to play – Pin the Cigar on Churchill. Wayne was the winner although I understand he shared his prize of chocolates.
After the festivities of Friday we had a much calmer weekend with Saturday and Sunday a time to enjoy the garden and plant our tomatoes. We love going out to see the pond and the lovely plants, it’s a chance to take in all the lovely fragrances as well as the fresh air. Planting our vegetables is also a great way to stay active.
Sunday 10 was Pippa’s birthday and we enjoyed wishing her a lovely day with cake, lots of laughter and surrounded by her friends who drank a toast to Pippa. We played music and sang along and we even took the opportunity to have a dance. What a jolly afternoon it was.
