With lots of quizzes and reminiscing about the game shows we watched on television, or listened to on the radio, it has certainly been a busy week at Farnham Mill. We had one of our favourite singers perform for us, as well as celebrating a resident’s birthday. We have enjoyed a few days of sunshine which enabled us to get out and enjoy our garden, looking at the changing autumn shades.
Monday 13th November, we started our day in the main lounge with a quiz about TV game shows. We were interrupted by a canine visitor – Otto – who was pleased to see us all.
In the afternoon we gathered for afternoon tea, one of our student nurses joined us. She shared her experiences with one of our residents who was also a nurse, and they were able to have a long chat together about how things have changed and improved.
Tuesday 14th, residents played a ‘Price is Right’ quiz. They had to guess the price of everyday items back in 1970 and today’s price. We were very surprised at how expensive some things are today.
Some residents visited our hairdresser in our lovely hair salon. It is nice to feel pampered and Teresa always makes us feel special with a shampoo and set along with a chat as well.
In the afternoon the Woodlands and Hillbrow Choir gathered at Farnham Mill for a practice session. It’s really nice to sing together and catch up with each other.
Wednesday 15th, we played giant dominoes in the lounge. This brought back many memories of playing dominoes with our family.
Wednesday afternoon and we were joined by students from Lord Wandsworth College who enjoy visiting us and meeting the residents. Other residents got creative and enjoyed painting. This is very relaxing and always sparks conversations about what we are painting and the colours we are using.
Thursday 16th and ball games were being played around Farnham Mill. This gets us stretching as well as improving our hand to eye co-ordination.
In the afternoon some residents took part in flower arranging which is a great group activity we enjoy here at Farnham Mill. There is always lots of chat about the colourful flowers, scents, and memories of our own gardens.
After that we have a pianist that visits on a Thursday afternoon who plays relaxing music residents can enjoy listening to.
Friday 17th, some of our ladies enjoyed a ‘Spa’ day. There were some soothing aromatherapy scents, manicures and relaxing face masks. It was a very busy salon and it prepared us for our afternoon of entertainment.
After some reminiscing one of our residents practiced her piano playing skills. Some talents you never seem to lose.
In the afternoon we sang along and danced with Gareth. He is one of our regular performers and knows just the right songs to sing to get us all joining in.
Saturday 18th, some residents used our interactive table for some fun games, whilst others played mini basketball. It was certainly a busy morning.
In the afternoon we celebrated a lovely lady’s birthday and had a special tea party for her. She received lots of cards and gifts and enjoyed sharing her cake with everyone.
Sunday 19th, on Sunday residents often like to watch church services on the television or catch up with the news in the Sunday papers before enjoying a traditional roast dinner. Later in the afternoon a cheese and wine trolley toured the home, everyone had the chance to sample some.
