With opportunities to see the ducklings outside on the pond it really felt like Easter had arrived, we even got the chance to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine for a while. We made bonnets for our competition on Easter Monday, the wonderful Natasha sang and danced on Tuesday, and we were blessed to have Father John visit us on Maundy Thursday for a church service and communion.
Monday 3 April, our morning started with Easter bonnet decorating.
Lots of ribbon, paper flowers and eggs were being stuck on our bonnets for the competition next Monday. We have some beautiful designs and can’t wait to see who wins.
In the afternoon we had lovely Tinkerbell visit. She is our very own Pets as Therapy dog and pops in to see us at least once a week. The gorgeous Dudley also visited one of our residents and we all wanted to stroke him as well.
Tuesday 4 April, the delicious smoothie trolley toured all floors in the home. With a selection of tempting fruit, we were able to pick what we wanted in our very own ‘made to order’ smoothie. They were so appetising we hope they will be a regular feature.
Later in the morning we planted some seeds ready for taking outside. It’s a sensory experience and is something we used to do at this time of year when we had our own gardens.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a performance from Natasha. We love her colourful dresses and the way she dances to the songs. Some of us even got up to dance along as well.
Wednesday 5 April, in the morning we decorated Easter trees. This is a custom that originated in Germany but has been adopted by many other countries now. The eggs look so pretty hanging on the branches.
In the afternoon we enjoyed celebrating a lovely gentleman’s birthday as he spent time with his family. There was delicious cake for everyone.
Thursday 6 April, in the morning, residents enjoyed a walk outside to start the day and then we painted some Easter chicks to decorate our home.
In the afternoon Tinkerbell made another visit to our home. She loves coming to see us and has lots of cuddles from our residents.
We also had our usual flower arranging session which is a very popular activity with all residents at Farnham Mill.
Thursday was such a busy day as we held a Maundy Thursday service and communion in our activities room.
Friday 7 April – Good Friday – our day started with relaxing hand massages. This is a sensory experience which relaxes and soothes us.
In the afternoon, as is tradition on Good Friday, hot cross buns were freshly toasted and enjoyed by residents around the home. Our activities team certainly had fun getting in the Easter spirit.
Saturday 8 April, a chance to enjoy the spring sunshine and spend some time in the garden. It’s so lovely seeing the colourful spring plants and really brightens our day.
We also had the opportunity to celebrate a lovely lady’s birthday with her family and friends (twice). We really love being able to share these moments with family and friends and it makes special memories for us all.
Sunday 9 April, residents had a relaxing day either seeing their families, spending more time in the sunshine or chatting together while knitting. Such a busy week at Farnham Mill.
