Mardi Gras is a very colourful, musical event and here at Farnham Mill we certainly had a very musical week which started with our music therapy on Monday morning, the Woodlands and Hillbrow choir on Tuesday afternoon and a very entertaining performance from Anthony Allgood on Wednesday afternoon.   We had a fantastic visit from the pygmy goats, they always make us smile.  We enjoyed a visit from the students at Edgeborough School who came, chatted and joined us in our art activities.  Our wonderful artwork and flower arranging displayed the colours of Mardi Gras. It has been a very successful week.

Monday 20 February, our music therapist, Laura, was using our activities room to hold sessions with residents.  It was lovely to see them engage with the singing and the percussion instruments.

Other residents were able to make Mardi Gras masks.  They were very colourful, and we were very pleased with our efforts.

In the afternoon residents enjoyed an afternoon tea.

Tuesday 21 February and the pygmy goats visited in the morning.  They toured the home and were able to say hello to everyone.

In the afternoon Farnham Mill hosted the Woodlands and Hillbrow choir.  Residents from all four homes gathered to practice songs and enjoy the lovely experience of being able to sing together.  And of course to finish, a nice cup of tea.

Wednesday 22 February was Ash Wednesday, Father John from the local parish came to hold an Ash Wednesday service.  Residents gathered on our second floor to sing hymns, say prayers, and receive ash that has been blessed along with communion for those that wanted it.

In the afternoon we had we a new performer to entertain us, Anthony Allgood and he was certainly very different.  He not only sung, but told jokes and recited monologues. He was very visual with his colourful jackets and props.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s entertainment and hope he will be back to see us soon.  To round off we had an afternoon tea which gave us a chance to chat about the performance.

Thursday 23 February, we spent a quiet morning painting, colouring and chatting with each other as well as enjoying garden walks.  It’s nice to have a more relaxed time to share a cup of tea with friends.

In the afternoon we enjoyed flower arranging together.  We had some very colourful and highly scented flowers which are now displayed in our rooms and lounges.

Friday 24 February, in the morning residents enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and sensory games.

In the afternoon we had a visit from Edgeborough School.  Their students from Year 5 came to play violin and piano for us, it was good to have a chat with them after.  It was so lovely to see them, we hope they come back again soon.

Saturday 25 February, we spent the day catching up with the news in our Saturday papers, and enjoyed art, crafts and jigsaw puzzles.  We love doing these activities in small groups as it is very social and an opportunity to catch up with friends over a cup of tea.  We even had time for a walk around the garden.

Sunday 26 February, residents enjoyed watching the local church service together on the television in our activities room, whilst one resident was able to attend in person.

In the afternoon, we spent time outside in the sunshine whilst we contemplated what activities are planned for the next week, especially thinking of celebrating St David’s Day.
