This week at Farnham Mill residents enjoyed making snowmen and snowflakes, taking part in a winter quiz, tossing snowballs and even dodge the rain showers to go outside for a walk and check on our duck pond.  There’s always a varied range of activities for residents to take part in such as our regular flower arranging and baking club, as well as new ones to enjoy and this week we played lots of table games such as dominoes and scrabble.

Monday 9 January and after some time spent outside by our pond, snowflakes were made by residents to decorate our home.  They say there are never two the same and that is certainly the case here.

In the afternoon one of our wonderful care partners put on a ‘Winter’ theme quiz.  We found it very interesting and learnt lots of new facts such as all the curling stones used around the world come from Ailsa Craig in Scotland!   These type of activities bring us together and are a great way to socialise.

Some residents also enjoyed board and sensory games with our staff.

Tuesday 10 January and residents enjoyed painting snow scenes.  It’s a great relaxing activity and is also good for hand eye co-ordination.

Other residents took the opportunity to exercise.  Lots of stretching arms and legs to get the blood circulating round our bodies.

In the afternoon we had a go at sensory smells.  Smelling different scents and trying to guess what they are and what memories they induce.

Wednesday 11 January and we started the morning with walks outside.  It was great to see the ducks and geese on the pond and enjoy the fresh air.

In the afternoon some of us decided to make snowmen which we have now displayed on our artboard.  We love showing off our artwork to other residents and visitors.  It makes us very proud to see what we have achieved.

We also celebrated a lovely lady’s birthday, so all enjoyed a delicious slice of cake made by our wonderful chef.

Thursday 12 January and whilst some residents played some balloon games, others decided to get creative and ensure that we have a good selection of handmade cards that we sell for the company charity, ‘Families Supporting Care’.  With new stock made, please make sure you have a look when you come to visit.  They are located near the handwashing sink by reception.

Our afternoon of flower arranging kept us all very busy with residents on all floors being able to take part.  We love the colours and scents that fill the rooms.  Although this week, we were interrupted by a gorgeous baby who came to say hello to us, what a treat.

Friday 13 January and some of our ladies enjoyed a little bit of pampering with hand massages and having their nails painted, then in the afternoon some time was spent in the garden.

Saturday 14 January was a relaxing day.    We spent time catching up with the news in the papers, painting, word and board games.

Sunday 15 January and it was another day of games.   Dominoes and Bingo were the favourites of the day. This is a great social activity, a way of making new friends and enjoying a cup of tea together.
