All over the country children are returning to school after the long summer break and so this week, residents reminisced about their school days, taking their own children to school on the first day of term, and also what it is like in schools today. We also had a lovely singalong when Louis played for us during the week. We also had a little trip out to the local garden centre. Of course, the week was tinged with sadness when we learnt on Thursday that our wonderful Queen had passed away and this has brought us together as we share our memories of Queen Elizabeth II.
Monday 5 September and we started with a ‘morning PE lesson’ which involved lots of stretching to get the blood flowing through our bodies. Other residents went through their scrapbooks.
In the afternoon we had an ‘Art Class’. We could choose between paints or crayons to complete our pictures.
Tuesday 6 September and we all got together for a Residents Meeting, this gives us a chance to get together and discuss any changes with Management, hear about new staff and we can raise any questions or suggestions.
In the afternoon our regular baking group got together to make some delicious scones that were enjoyed with fresh cream and jam. So Tasty.
Wednesday 7 September and we had a wonderful surprise. A very kind lady presented us with William, a young boy to look after. We had a few details about his age and our caring residents have certainly taken to him. Our knitting group are planning to knit some more clothes for him.
In the afternoon we all joined together for Louis playing the piano for us. It was lovely to hear him play and then we joined in singing along.
Thursday 8 September and after reminiscing about our schooldays, we played a word game. We had to see how many words we could find using the letters in Times Tables. We did very well, finding 120, and were ready for lunch when we finished.
Thursday afternoon and our flower arrangers were ready to arrange some beautiful flowers. We also had a birthday to celebrate as well.
Friday 9 September and after our residents heard the sad news about Our Queen some residents wanted to watch the news on the television and others decided they wanted to relax and paint. We also had a trip to the garden centre where they enjoyed looking at the flowers, as well as the fish.
In the afternoon they enjoyed hand massages and manicures.
Saturday 10 September and sensory games were found to be most relaxing around the home, as well as table tennis.
In the afternoon we remembered getting milk at school and so had a cookies and milk trolley visiting everyone around the home.
Sunday 11 September and we gathered for a church service in the morning. We were able to pay our respects to the Queen and pray for our new King.
We all enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast dinner and then afternoon tea with delicious cakes and the best china. The perfect way to end a busy week.
