Residents of Farnham Mill have enjoyed travelling around the world and after a stopover in Venice, a day spent in the Caribbean, we finished off the week in Hawaii drinking delicious cocktails served by ladies in Hula-Hula skirts. On our trip residents also enjoyed a special afternoon tea of scones with fresh cream and lemon drizzle cake with the captain of our ship. This brought back memories of our travels around the world as well as trying new foods along the way.
Monday 29 August and to start off our cruise week we did exercises to the Sailors Hornpipe, residents then had a game of Lifebuoy Toss.
In the afternoon we set about creating a photo frame to use on our Cruise. We also had a lovely dog visit us who got lots of attention.
Tuesday 30 August and we started the day with an A-Z of the countries of the world. It certainly got us talking and reminiscing about the places we have visited.
In the afternoon we celebrated a lovely lady’s birthday with a special afternoon tea. So nice to share these moments with family.
Wednesday the 31 August and we started the day with some balloon games before doing some craft. Of course, on our cruise ship we like to look out of the port holes, so we created port holes and imagined what view we would see. Unfortunately, some of us could see sharks!
In the afternoon one of our favourite singers came to perform for us – Jayney. We love singing and dancing along with her. It was a lovely afternoon.
It was also another lovely lady’s birthday so Jayney was able to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her and celebrations were held later with her family and friends.
Thursday 1 September and our cruise ship stopped off at Venice. We had the chance of watching a Canal Tour on YouTube and then we made Venetian Masks. When the anchor was hauled up, we discovered an octopus was caught on it so we played hoopla with it!
In the afternoon, some residents joined in the flower arranging whilst a small group went on a short walk to the pub on the Shepherd and Flock roundabout and had a nice drink watching the world go by was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Friday 2 September and we called into the Caribbean islands. In the morning we enjoyed a tropical island word game, some Caribbean art, as well as listening to some Caribbean music. We also had the students from Lord Wandsworth College visit us for a nice chat.
In the afternoon we were able to try some Caribbean food as a food tasting trolley visited residents on all floors of the home.
Saturday 3 September and in the morning whilst some residents watched a tour of a modern cruise liner, or enjoyed watching the ducks on the pond, others did a word game to keep our brain working. We certainly like a challenge.
In the afternoon we were all invited to Afternoon Tea at the Captains Table. We enjoyed scones with fresh cream and jam alongside lemon drizzle cake. A lovely cup of tea also went down well.
Sunday 4 September and our port of call today was Hawaii – so our art club were busy painting some lovely Hawaiian themed pictures before our tasty and traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding Sunday roast dinner.
After lunch we were greeted by two friendly Hawaiian ladies with a colourful cocktail trolley. What a way to end a week of cruising around the world.
