We enjoyed a busy week at Farnham Mill celebrating India. We looked at their customs, food and famous places as well as doing all the things we love to do at Farnham Mill such as flower arranging, singing and dancing and, of course, enjoying our wonderful gardens. This week we also had a lovely afternoon tea with our friends from Woodlands Residential Home and were also joined by children from Lord Wandsworth College who were very keen to chat to our residents. And on Friday we had a great singalong with Ray Lowe when he sang swing songs for us.
Monday 16 May and we started the day with balloon games around the home. This is a great opportunity to stretch and reach for the balloon.
The afternoon was spent enjoying our garden and having quick chats with friends. There’s always a friendly smile and wave at Farnham Mill.
Tuesday 17 May and some of our ladies enjoyed a bit of pampering and had their nails painted. Some lovely colours were being used.
In the afternoon our Indian Spice Trolley went around the home visiting residents. This offered them the chance of smelling various spices that are used in Indian cooking.
Wednesday 18 May and our art club created paper plate elephants. We learnt how these are sacred animals to Hindus and it’s the living reincarnation of one of their most important Gods – Ganesh.
We had a wonderful afternoon tea with our friends from Woodlands Residential Home. They often come and visit us and this week we were able to host a lovely afternoon tea on the pontoon in the sunshine. We also had students from Lord Wandsworth College join us for a chat so it was a very busy, but lovely afternoon outside.
Thursday 19 May and in the morning, residents continued working on their Jubilee displays. They’ve made a wonderful collage using photos of the Queen all throughout her reign.
In the afternoon residents enjoyed their regular flower arranging. So lovely to arrange the flowers into vases and distribute them around the home. We also enjoy the afternoon tea that follows this activity.
Friday 20 May and on the first floor we started the day with a little song quiz. It was fun trying to continue the song from the first line clue. There were lots of la la las as we had forgotten the words!
There was more music in the afternoon as we had one of our favourite singers perform for us. Ray Lowe singing swing music. We loved singing along to the songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior as well as many more. It was such a great afternoon with many of our residents getting up to dance as well.
Saturday 21 May and residents enjoyed a bit of painting to start the day. It’s a nice way to get together and relax with a cup of tea. Other residents decided to look at books. It’s a great way to reminisce and share memories.
In the afternoon residents got together to watch a film. There was also a treats trolley with crisps, cakes and other sweet treats.
Those that didn’t want to watch the film were able to spend time in the garden, planting and doing other diy jobs.
Sunday 22 May was another glorious day and so we took the opportunity to spend more time in the lovely fresh air and sunshine and sit back and relax. A perfect way to end a busy week.
