At Farnham Mill we looked forward to celebrating Easter with our friends and family. Residents took part in lots of activities from decorating our Easter Tree, making Easter Bonnets, biscuits and also celebrating National Scrabble Day with an afternoon tea. With the lovely weather we have also spent a lot of time outside watching our ducks with their ducklings. Spring is really here.
Monday 11 April – Although there was a slight chill, some residents started the day with a walk outside to feed the birds, whilst others did some morning exercises with balloon games.
In the afternoon residents helped create an ‘Easter Tree’. This is a German tradition that has now been incorporated into many homes within England.
Tuesday 12 April and we enjoyed being outside again in the sunshine. We love spending time around the pond, there is always so much to see especially now as we are looking for the ducklings.
In the afternoon we concentrated on our scrapbooks, sticking in new pictures and looking at what we have done before. It’s a great way to reminisce.
Wednesday 13 April and we started making our Easter Bonnets. We always have an Easter Bonnet Competition between residents which is judged by Alison. Lots of creativity with tissue paper, ribbons and little chicks.
As it was National Scrabble Day, we decided to have a Scrabble Themed Afternoon Tea with lots of facts about the game of scrabble. We learnt that it was invented by an American architect, there are 100 tiles in the English version but 120 tiles in the Portuguese and Italian version of the game. Delicious homemade Hot Cross Buns were enjoyed as well as freshly baked biscuits.
Thursday 14 April and balloon bounce was being enjoyed on the ground floor at Farnham Mill before we learnt about Easter traditions. It was very interesting to learn about how the Easter Bunny started as well as reminiscing about the Easter Church services, we used to attend.
In the afternoon we had so many flowers to arrange. Such a colourful way to spend the afternoon, and the fresh floral scent is always lovely around our home.
Friday 15 April and it was a morning of sport – snooker and golf being practised.
In the afternoon residents enjoyed having cups of tea outside. The weather was so sunny they decided to wear some of the Easter bonnets they had made.
Saturday 16 April and our baking club got together to make some delicious Easter shaped biscuits. After mixing, rolling out the dough and then using Easter shape cutters we baked them in the oven. They were delicious.
In the afternoon we had a delicious Easter Saturday afternoon tea. With decorated tables it was a wonderful opportunity to get together and enjoy more delicious chocolate cake that our chef had prepared.
Easter Sunday – some residents were able to take part in Holy Communion. This was a special time for residents to have a quiet time to reflect and say prayers on this religious day.
Other residents were more energetic and played table tennis together.
After a traditional roast lamb lunch it was time to relax and enjoy being amongst friends both inside and out.
