It’s been a busy week with a range of activities from Baking Club, Flower Arranging, Craft Club, garden walks, writing Pen Pal letters to our friends at More House School and a chance to reminisce about childhood stories with our Beatrix Potter themed afternoon tea.
Monday 28 March and we started the week with lots of exercises, stretching and reaching alongside friends always makes us smile.
In the afternoon our craft club got together to make bookmarks. We thought they would make very nice gifts.
Other residents took the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the last bit of sun this week before the cold weather arrived. An opportunity to have afternoon tea on the pontoon.
Tuesday 29 March – and some of our ladies visited the salon to see our wonderful hairdresser, Teresa. This week, however, one of our residents who used to run her own salon decided to help out and show us her hairstyling skills.
We also helped one of our residents celebrate the birthday of her husband. They were both able to enjoy a little tea party together.
In the afternoon our Baking Club made wonderful scones – delicious smells wafting around the first floor, and a real treat to go with a cup of tea. We love these group activities at Farnham Mill as it’s a great opportunity chat and catch up with friends.
Wednesday 30 March and we started the day with early morning walks outside. A cold wind was blowing so we didn’t dawdle.
After that we warmed up with balloon games. Lots of hitting that balloon with a noodle until Father John interrupted our game with a weekly catch up and then we all worked together to try and remember as many Nursery Rhymes as we could.
In the afternoon we caught up with our Pen Pals from More House School in Frensham. The boys regularly write to us and as it was Creative Writing week, we decided to write back to them. One resident told me that she was overjoyed to think that a young schoolboy had taken the time to write her a letter.
Thursday 31 March and we played a Word Game in the main lounge, it was all about book titles and gave us lots to chat about from what books we read to learning poetry at school.
In the afternoon Flower Arranging took place on the first floor. We certainly enjoy having fresh flowers in our rooms at Farnham Mill.
One of our gentlemen practiced his golfing skills on the balcony.
Friday 1 April and in the morning, residents enjoyed some hand massages. It was so relaxing and a chance for one-to-one time.
In the afternoon some residents enjoyed sitting out in the sun whilst other residents preferred a bit of impromptu dancing.
Saturday 2 April and our card making club took place. We made cards for birthdays, anniversaries and some get well. These are displayed in our visiting areas and monies raised go to the charity ‘Families Supporting Care’.
Other residents joined in doing exercises, we like to start the day with a good stretch.
In the afternoon we were treated to a Beatrix Potter themed afternoon tea. This brought back many memories of reading stories to our children and a lovely opportunity to sit with friends and eat some delicious cake.
Sunday 3 April and we started the day with the local Badshot Lea and Hale Church Service screened on TV for those residents that wanted to watch, others enjoyed walks in the gardens with family.
In the afternoon our Knitting Club were busy knitting and chatting. More ladies seem to join us every week and its great to share skills with each other. A cup of tea and slice of cake always goes down well.
