Red hearts and roses were all around our home this week as Farnham Mill found new ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day. With afternoon teas, flower arranging, word games and making delicious jam tarts it was certainly a busy week.

Monday 14 February – Valentine’s Day – and every resident within Farnham Mill received a rose. It was a lovely way to start the day and put smiles on all our faces especially for some of our couples here to share that special moment.

In the afternoon we got together to enjoy a lovely Afternoon Tea with decorated tables and a delicious strawberry cake. Lots of chat and catching up with everyone together and a chance to celebrate a lovely gentleman’s birthday with chocolate cake.

On Tuesday 15 February we played balloon games with our lovely heart shaped balloons. A great way to keep fit stretching to hit it.

In the afternoon we took the opportunity to enjoy the garden and see the lovely spring flowers starting to show. And we were also surprised by Tootsies Nursery School who brought pot plants to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week. What a lovely thought.

Wednesday 16 February and we took advantage of the lovely morning sunshine for a walk outside, it seems other residents had the same idea.

In the afternoon we gathered together to enjoy Louis playing the piano. We get a chance to listen to his playing before we join in for a singalong.

Thursday 17 February and residents got together to do colouring and jigsaw puzzles. We enjoy doing activities together as we share ideas and reminisce.

In the afternoon it was flower arranging with afternoon tea, another opportunity to work and share in a group. As it was Valentine’s week there were plenty of red flowers to arrange.

We also had a Valentines Cocktail trolley visiting the residents. There was Sangria, Rose and Red wines, as well as Cranberry Kiss and Blackcurrant squeeze. Something for everyone.

Friday 18 February and our gardening club were busy planting seeds. The gardens will be very colourful come summer.

In the afternoon residents made hearts to decorate our tree. We wrote little messages on them as well.

Some residents also used our interactive table – there are lots of games on there that we like to play.

Saturday morning and our baking club got to work on making Queen of Hearts Jam Tarts for our afternoon tea. Some of us rolled out the pastry for the bases, others put the jam filling in whilst others cut out the hearts to go on top.

In the afternoon, before our afternoon tea, we had a visit from a lovely little dog called Tiny. He was so cute and we all had a chance to cuddle him.

Sunday 20 February and our card making club made lots of cards which we sell to raise funds for our charity – ‘Families Supporting Care’. Please look out for them when you visit.

It was a very productive Sunday – during the afternoon our knitting club ladies sat together and continued with their knitting. One resident showed off her lovely colourful blanket she had finished. She is going to donate it to a charity.
