We certainly enjoyed our week spent in Italy.  So many great activities and memories made with fellow residents.  We tried Italian wines and cheeses, made pizzas, enjoyed singing and dancing with one of our favourite entertainers, made Venetian masks and tried ice cream from our Italian ice cream trolley.  On top of that we had a visit from Alison’s lovely pygmy goats.

Monday 7 February and one of our residents was up early for her walk so she could see the birds in our garden and on the bird table.  Then it was a ‘Know Your Italy Quiz’ which lots of residents joined in.

After lunch we enjoyed an Italian Cheese and Wine tasting.  Tess, our Hospitality Manager, had a lovely display of cheeses and wines which we all tasted.  It was a great opportunity to also reminisce about our favourite wines.

Tuesday morning and some residents enjoyed a bit of exercising to music and this took the form of balloon games.

In the afternoon we had one of our favourite singers, Gareth, perform for us.  He also included some Italian songs for us.

Wednesday 9 February and as it was National Pizza Day, the residents made Pizzas in the morning to be served for tea.  We had an assortment of toppings which we put on top of our tomato base, ham, pepperoni, peppers and of course, Mozzarella.

In the afternoon we made Venetian Masks to decorate the home.  We made them all different colours and were very proud of our efforts.

Thursday 10 February and we started off with a word game.  We had to see how many words we could make from ‘Spaghetti Bolognese’.   We did very well but it did make us hungry for our lunch.

Other residents enjoyed doing some painting.  It was very relaxing and therapeutic.

We also celebrated a lovely gentleman’s birthday.  We love sharing these special moments with family members.

The afternoon was flower arranging.  So many colours of flowers, it was lovely being able to arrange them in vases.

Friday morning and we started with Italian Hangman.  We discovered that so many words we use today were actually ‘Italian’ words such as Fiasco, Opera and Terracotta.  After that we had our monthly residents meeting with Alison, an opportunity to discuss what’s happening in our home with her.

It was a busy day as the pygmy goats made a quick visit after lunch.  We all got the opportunity to feed them.  So nice having them wander around the home.

Also, on Friday afternoon we had some ‘Gelato’.  To celebrate our Italian week, we had an ice cream trolley visit all floors in the home.  It was very popular with our residents.

Saturday 12 February and we started the day of with exercises to music.  A good way to start the weekend.

Later a few residents did puzzles and colouring.

In the afternoon it was time for our Giant Crossword.  We all enjoy having to work together to solve the clues.  Its great working as a team.

Sunday 13 February and whilst some residents watched the morning Church of England service, others helped with our valentine decorations.  We then enjoyed an afternoon film – Paddington Bear, and agreed it was a great way to end a very busy week.
