With the wind and rain beating down outside we’ve been warm and busy this week at Farnham Mill – from making biscuits, Christmas cards, flower arranging and then having one of our regular entertainers in to perform for us.
Monday 22 November and after our morning exercises we relaxed with jigsaw puzzles.
In the afternoon we reminisced by looking at our scrapbooks and helped celebrate one of our lovely ladies’ birthdays. There was a slice of cake for everyone.
On Tuesday one of the Activities Team from Hill House spent the morning with us. She brought some of her games that she plays there and we got to try them out. We all agreed they were good fun and enjoyed her being with us.
In the afternoon, our Care Partner, Annie, did her cookery club. Lovely buttery biscuits were cooked and the smell wafting around the home was mouth-watering.
On Wednesday 24 November song sheets were being prepared for our FM Choir. Once we warmed up our voices, we sung out loud – practicing our Christmas songs as well as our favourites like Edelweiss.
In the afternoon another of our Care Partners gave our residents a lovely sensory hand massage. A great way to relax. Other residents joined in our Craft Club and made Christmas Cards to sell at Farnham Mill. We love doing this as the money raised goes to our charity, ‘Families Supporting Care’ and over the last couple of weeks we have raised an impressive £25.
It was very busy on Thursday morning, some residents played mini snooker, Scrabble, made Aeroplane models or got involved in Food Hangman.
Thursday afternoon and we were looking forward to seeing Natasha again and she didn’t disappoint. Dressed in her military costume she performed some of our favourite wartime songs – We’ll Meet Again, Don’t Sit under the Apple Tree and many more. We all sang along and danced together. It was great fun.
Friday 26 November and our Craft Club were busy making mini-Christmas scenes. We got quite messy with glue and paint.
Our flower arranging club met this week on Friday for a change. Always popular and a chance to have some lovely vases of flowers around our home.
Saturday morning and it was time for our Giant Crossword. Lots of thinking and guessing to complete it before lunch. It’s a great opportunity to work together with friends to solve the clues.
In the afternoon, with the wind blowing outside, we settled down to a lovely Afternoon Tea. The chef had made some delicious cupcakes and our favourite lemon drizzle cake. With tea poured from our golden teapot, what could be better. Cheers !
Sunday morning is an opportunity to come together and watch our local Church of England Service. Singing hymns together is rather special during these times.
After a very delicious roast lamb we settled down to a movie. As it was so cold and blustery outside, we put on our first Christmas film and stayed nice and cosy. Our Activities Team have also put together a ‘Knitting Basket’. This is to encourage our residents to enjoy knitting together, it got the seal of approval from our Farnham Mill knitters. I wonder what next week will hold in store for us at Farnham Mill.
