A busy week at Farnham Mill which incorporated a trip to Hawaii! Monday was a very relaxing day for us at Farnham Mill. Jigsaw puzzles and a chance to celebrate a lovely lady’s birthday. So nice that her family can join in with the celebrations here and enjoy some cake.
Tuesday started off with some exercises. A time for stretching, reaching and getting our muscles moving. When we do it in a group, we always have fun and it never seems like hard work.
And dancing is also a way we love to keep fit and there is always great music playing that makes us want to dance. Looks like we’re getting ready for the return of Strictly Come Dancing.
On Tuesday there was another birthday to celebrate and another cake. Good job we do lots of exercise!
Wednesday morning and one of our Activity Co-ordinators gave our residents relaxing hand massages and painted our nails. It was lovely to feel pampered.
We also reminisced looking at books. These had pictures of old adverts as well as food and drink from the 1950s and 1960s.
Other residents decided to play ball games. A chance to test our hand eye co-ordination skills.
In the afternoon we had a delicious trolley doing a tour of the home with fresh fruit and fruit juices. Keeping hydrated is very important for our health and well being and so it is lovely to have drinks and fruit on offer that look so appealing.
On Thursday 2 September we started making Tiki Masks to decorate the home for our Hawaiian BBQ. We had a lot of fun trying to make them scary.
Thursday afternoon and most of our residents took part in Annie’s Flower Arranging Club. The local Sainsburys in Water Lane provide us with flowers that are past their ‘display date’ but there is still plenty of life left in them. We love having so many flowers to arrange and this week one of our talented residents put together a beautiful basket to celebrate our Care Partners daughter in law having her first baby, a very healthy daughter. We all wished her well.
On Friday the weather was lovely and so we took the opportunity to spend some time outside.
Our Activities Team organised a table tennis tournament in the afternoon. It was very competitive and took us back to playing in youth clubs when we were younger.
Those that didn’t want to be too energetic played on the interactive table. Another great facility we have at Farnham Mill.
Saturday morning and our Volunteer, David, did the giant crossword in the lounge whilst we also helped celebrate one of our residents wedding anniversaries with her husband. 50 years together so a chance to have a glass of bubbly and some cake. Many congratulations from all of us at Farnham Mill.
Saturday lunchtime was our Hawaiian BBQ, unfortunately we didn’t have the sunshine outside but we certainly had some sunny smiles inside. The dining room tables were decorated, the staff dressed up and we all wore some garlands. At Farnham Mill we enjoy these opportunities to come together for special events, everyone works so hard and it is always appreciated by our residents.
After a busy Saturday, Sunday was a lot quieter and more peaceful. We started the day with our church service from Badshot Lea and Hale church. This week we sung along to some very familiar hymns.
Afterwards we enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and then some time in the garden before lunch – this week it was roast lamb.
To continue with our Hawaiian theme we then sat down to watch South Pacific – this included some of our favourite songs and we all joined in with ‘Some Enchanted Evening’. What a lovely way to end the week.
