This week at Farnham Mill it has been very special – welcoming our first family visit inside the home and celebrating the joy of flowers in the run up to Mother’s Day.
Monday morning and we always start the week as we mean to go on! Exercises and balloon games to stretch our tired muscles. We try to make sure it is fun with music playing to get our feet tapping. The weather was also nice so walks around the garden were enjoyed.
In the afternoon we made lots of flowers to decorate the home. This also gives us a chance to reminisce and we talked about our favourite flowers and growing plants in the garden.
Monday was also a special day as Government restrictions have been relaxed a little so we can allow family visits within the home. A great day for everyone and a sense that things are improving around the country.
Tuesday heralded another busy day within the home and we enjoyed getting out our sensory games and puzzles to keep our minds stimulated.
In the afternoon we enjoyed our walks around the garden. So many daffodils are starting to bloom so the garden looks different everyday and, of course, the ducks always keep us entertained.
On Wednesday we learnt about flower facts and traditions – especially the traditions associated with wedding bouquets. Whilst in other parts of the home games of dominoes were popular or just flicking through magazines.
In the afternoon we had a relaxing time in our sensory room. It’s an area where our residents like to enjoy the peace and quiet and watch the sensory lights.
Thursday, we enjoyed playing with plasticine. It brought back many memories of playing with our children and grandchildren and is also good for our fine motor skills.
The giant crossword was our activity for Thursday afternoon. It’s a great communal event and a good test of our knowledge.
More flower making for Friday morning, lots of colours to choose from. Colouring and looking at magazines was also a favoured activity.
Another afternoon to enjoy the good weather outside and keep a check on our ducks on the pond. They are very amusing splashing and showing off to us. It always makes us smile.
Saturday morning and an opportunity to play balloon games. This keeps us fit with lots of stretching, just right before we have our mid-morning cup of tea.
Saturday afternoon was our puzzle and sensory games afternoon. We love exploring the shapes and feel of these puzzles.
On Sunday morning some of our residents take part in our weekly church service. We are lucky to be able to still have access and worship together with Badshot Lea and Hale church. It is often a time for reflection.
After a lovely roast dinner, we paid a special visit to all the lovely ‘Mothers’ within Farnham Mill. A lovely treats trolley with Prosecco, flowers, cupcakes and a special face flannel cupcake which had been made by our activities team. It was a very special afternoon.
