Autumn is always such a colourful time with the changing shades of leaves on the trees, so this last week at Farnham Mill we decided to celebrate Autumn and bring the wonderful autumn colours into the home. It has been so much fun with lots of laughs and smiles.
As usual on a Monday morning we started the day with morning exercises. Its important to keep active so we usually start with some chair-based exercises and then we play balloon bounce. It is great fun and we don’t realise how active we are being. A cup of tea is always needed at the end though.
In the afternoon some residents made some autumn wreaths using leaves and paper plates. We hung them around the house for all to see.
Other residents explored our sensory games. There’s always something for everyone.
Tuesday morning, we did some seasonal table decorations using branches with leaves and berries. It was a chance to be artistic and create some wonderful arrangements.
In the afternoon we relaxed with jigsaw puzzles and looking at books. It can be quite therapeutic.
An autumn quiz was how we began Wednesday morning. It tested our knowledge of ‘stubble burning’ and ‘conker matches’. This gave us a chance to reminisce our childhood memories.
In the afternoon, whilst some of our ladies made more decorations with autumn leaves, the gentlemen made 3D wooden puzzles. It was very satisfying to work on these lovely wooden puzzles.
What fun we had Thursday morning when we had some music playing that made us just want to dance. Farnham Mill is such a happy place and the staff and residents always have smiles on their faces.
In the afternoon we arranged some flowers that we picked in the garden, they are so lovely.
Friday morning our Art Club got together to create some lovely autumn pictures. We chatted about the lovely colours and the shapes of the leaves.
The afternoon was very peaceful and included walks around the garden. Its nice to make the most of the dry weather.
Saturday was a time for games – throwing of bean bags and balls. Its great for our hand eye co-ordination, and we like to be competitive.
Some of us also like playing Jenga – we love to see how high we can balance the bricks.
In the afternoon we gathered round with friends and did puzzles together. Its very stimulating and also a chance for a chat.
Our Sundays now start with a Church Service from Badshot Lea and Hale Church. Its nice to have a routine and gather together for a quiet prayer and reflection.
A walk to the Mill Pond before lunch and a sit on the balcony to take advantage of the fine weather was also lovely.
After a delicious Sunday roast we relaxed and started creating our Halloween decorations – we are looking forward to our next week and learning about Halloween traditions. We’re also hoping for some sweet treats.
