This week at Farnham mill we celebrated the harvest festival by learning about the traditions within a harvest to trying lots of fruits. We also made sure we fitted in lots of excise as now it is getting chilly out, we can’t enjoy the garden as much.
Monday morning, we started with a game of balloon bounce, we hit the balloon to each other with our woggles in our hands. This is a good way for exercising and getting us using are hand eye coordination. We also learnt about harvest and when it started and everything to do with it, we enjoyed listening with a cup of tea in hand.
In the afternoon we got to enjoy the interactive table, this is full of games that helps us with lots of different skills such as hand eye coordination all the way to memory games. Some of us enjoyed creating our very own scarecrows, we made them out of paper plates and have stuck them around the home for everyone to enjoy.
Tuesday, we enjoyed a harvest word game as well as some more light exercise. We gathered around the white board and tried to think of as many words as we could within one word. We also got to enjoy lots of small games and puzzles such as a game called Coggs and Jenga.
Tuesday afternoon was pen pal club, we gathered around the table and we could either write or even draw pictures for people who have recently wrote to us. The flowers were also delivered to us today so some of us enjoyed arrange the flowers to put around the home.
Wednesday was craft club with a difference, we created pictures but using different type of seeds. This was very fiddly and took a lot of patients but we got there in the end and we were very proud of ourselves at our end product. We also enjoyed some reminiscing with our fanatic books we have here. This brings back so many memories for us all and we always have a good chat to share our own memories.
Our amazing chief here at Farnham Mill created this wonderful Harvest loaf for us to all look at and admire. We were all impressed with her work and how amazing it is. This was just intime for our fruit tasting, so we used it as a display and it was a great talking point. We enjoyed lots of different fruit in the afternoon as well as learning some facts along the way.
Thursday, we enjoyed the morning air and went for a walk around the garden and watched the ducks as they had their breakfast. We then came inside and warmed up with some light exercise to music. We also got to enjoy some harvest themed painting. We picked our picture we wanted to create and got stuck in. This is another good way for us to socialise as we talk about each other’s painting and how we used to do lots when we were younger.
In the afternoon we gathered around and learnt some more about the harvest and the traditions we used to do. We also learnt about classical music and got to listen to some pieces. This was relaxing for us all and it brought back so many memories of dancing.
Friday, we started the day with a giant crossword and a harvest themed quiz. This was a good way to get us thinking and also have a good chat about the answers if we didn’t know it. We also got to do some sensory games and got to smell different things and try and work out what the smell was. This was a good game but it made us think very hard of what it could be.
In the afternoon we picked what we wanted to do and one of our favourite things is crafts and painting so that what we picked. Some of us finished our seed pictures from the other day and others started a new picture all together. We love painting here it is so relaxing especially with the music in the background.
Saturday, we made jam tarts. The pastry was already done which was a bonus for us, so we cut out the shapes we wanted then put a dollop of jam on top. We were all waiting patiently while they cooked and they were yummy!
In the afternoon we got out and enjoyed the little bit of sunshine that was pocking over the clouds. We had a nice walk and watched the ducks are they swam in line. We also enjoyed some reminiscing and some ono to one time with our activity’s coordinators and each other.
Sunday was a quiet day for us all, we couldn’t go outside as it was pouring it down with rain and what do you do when its raining you enjoy a nice film and a warm drink so that’s what we did. Some of us went to a church service in the morning, we sat together and sung along to the hymns.
In the afternoon we got creative and getting a head of the game and made Christmas cards. we got in the Christmas sprit early with our warm drinks and music playing in the background, we are all very excited for Christmas.
