This week at Farnham Mill we looked back at all the musicals we know and love. The residents here at Farnham Mill loved listening to all the songs from the musicals such as Singing in the rain, Hello Dolly and Mary Poppins, they were singing along and tapping their toes.

Monday morning, we started with some exercise, we wiggled our feet and toes, played imaginary instruments and stretched our arms getting the blood flowing and getting us all ready for an exciting week ahead. As well as exercise we hit the balloon around and enjoyed the morning sun before it got too hot for us to sit outside.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a word search trying to find as many words as we could in ‘Emerald city’ we found just over 100 words. We also got out in the sun and had a walk as well as looking at our resident ducks. Some of us stayed in and looked through our reminiscing books, this brought back a lot of memories for us all, and it was nice to chat about our childhood and what we used to do when we were younger.

Tuesday morning, we sat and enjoyed looking at the stars of the stage and the characters we know and love from the musicals we used to watch. Somewhere a lot harder to recognise but we worked as a team and we managed to get most of them right. We also learnt a lot about the theatres that we didn’t know and the strange things that happen in them.

Tuesday afternoon the goats came to visit! Pet therapy is good for us as it has a calming effect on us all, as soon as the goats or Daisy the dog come in, we all get so happy and we all want to stroke them and be with them. We loved feeding the goats with lots of goodies and also getting lots of strokes in, they have weird fur its not soft but it’s not rough but never the less we love the company of them.

Wednesday we made our very own scarecrow named Sammy. First, we scrunched up newspaper and padded out the shirt and trousers. We then got to make the head, we had already painted it a nice orange colour to represent a pumpkin, so next was to add the decoration. We painted on the eyes, nose and mouth and added strips of orange and yellow tissue paper to represent hair. We then assembled him and made him comfortable in a chair. We were all very proud of ourselves and we are very happy with him.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a sing along to lots of different musical songs as well as some time on the interactive table. This is a good way to keep us active as we have to stretch to reach the other side of the table to squash the bubbles and this keeps our mind active to as some of the games, we have to do some problem solving. We love singing here at Farnham mill too and everyone gets involved and no one holds back, it is a good social way for us all together and have fun.

Thursday morning, we had our residents meeting where we get to hear all the upcoming activities and events that are coming up as well as getting to say what we would like to say about anything within the home. We also got to enjoy Farnham mill swing band where we create our own music and also play along to the music that is playing in the background.

Thursday afternoon was flower arranging, we sat around the table and created our own flower pieces that we can put up around the home for everyone to see, this is also a good social opportunity for us all as it gets us chatting about the different flowers and how we used to do a lot of gardening and plant flowers and watch them grow. We also decorated some cupcakes; this is a good skill for us as we have to try and be steady with our hands and pipe on the icing. Once we decorated them, we got to eat them which was even better.

Friday was the day of our wizard of oz party. In the morning we got to enjoy the film we sat upstairs gathered around the tv with tea, biscuits and enjoyed the film. Some of us had never seen it before but knew the songs so we all sat there singing along and for us who had seen it before it was nicer to watch it again and bring back the memories of watching it when we were younger and with our own families.

We then got to enjoy the party. The room was decorated with green wall decorations it was like we were in the emerald city. We started with lunch which had a twist, the chips were called witches fingers and our pudding was bright green. This was nice for us all to sit around the tables with people we don’t normally sit with and have a chat. Once lunch was over, we had a musical quiz, we had to guess the name of the song that was being played and guess the musical, this was easy for some of the songs but others it was very hard. This was a busy day of us all but it was very nice to see everyone dressed up and having fun.

Saturday was a lot calmer for us all as we had had a very busy week and yesterday because of our party. We enjoyed table games and puzzles and also lots of time spent with the interactive table. This was a good way for us all to unwind after a busy week and also gets us ready for next week too.

Sunday, we enjoyed a church service, we gathered around together and sang hymns and also prayed. Once church finished, we got to watch a musical of our choice so we all picked singing in the rain we sung along enjoyed tea and chats with our fellow fiends and carers. This was such a nice end to such a busy week.
