This week at Farnham Mill our residents got dressed up as cowboys and Native Americans as we went to the wild west. This week consisted of history that some of the residents never heard of, as well as balloon games, word games and lots of time spent in the garden.
Monday morning, we got ready for our western themed party, as we decorated the room with pictures, a wigwam and we made our very own mini cactus for the tables. The room was full of energy and we were all so excited to see everyone get dressed up. We got to wear our very own cowboy hats and feather head bands which we all got to make the week before.
Once we had our western themed party, we got to enjoy poetry club, some mini golf and garden walks. We love poetry club here and we always get so stuck in and it is nice that we can all have our own input within the poem. We stuck with the western theme and called it ‘The Missing Stallion’
The Missing Stallion
I hung my shotgun up as I entered the saloon
Having shot the bandit at High Noon,
The Sheriff nodded as he drank his whisky
The saloon girls were feeling rather frisky!
The bartender wondered ‘What’s going on?’
As the young girls burst into song.
Suddenly, the saloon doors flew open
As in came the gunslinger ‘Little Ben’
He shouted in a loud voice –
“What have you done with my horse?”
The Big Chief had eaten it for his first course!

Tuesday morning, we got to watch a relaxing documentary to do with under the sea, this is a different type of documentary as it is all to do with sound. This is good for us all as it helps relieve any stress we may have, relaxes us and helps us with our senses. We also got to enjoy word games such as hangman, crosswords and word searches.
Tuesday afternoon one of our fellow residents was leaving us so we all got together in the garden and enjoyed the sun as well as having a mini party and giving him his farewell present. Some of us also enjoyed some therapeutic colouring and some bowling, this helps with our hand eye co-ordination and helps us unwind after a busy two days.
Wednesday was a full packed day. We did some exercises before reminiscing about cowboys we didn’t know about and we also talked of the cowboys we know and the films we have seen. We did some more of our puzzle that we have all been working on together, we still haven’t finished it yet but we are nearly there.
In the afternoon we said our final goodbyes to our friend, we wished him all the luck and we hope to see him soon. After that we was all a little sad but we soon cheered up as we thought of all the good times we had had together and the silly things he did. We also did a sing-a-long quiz this helped us lift our spirits and bring us all back to laughing and joking around with each other.
Thursday, we learnt about Native Americans with a quiz, photos and facts. This was new to all of us as we didn’t have a lot of knowledge in this area but with all this information, we have learnt so much more. Just before lunch we all set out to get some fresh air and check on the ducks.
In the afternoon we enjoyed some water painting, this is a good way for us all to get involved with a different type of painting and help with our hand eye co-ordination. We all sat around and did our own thing in the afternoon, I sat and tried to do more of the puzzles, whereas others didn’t some painting, went in the garden and enjoyed time doing there own thing.
We got moving on Friday with some exercise, we all had a woggle each and hit the balloon around the room. This made us all laugh so much as the woggle and the balloon had a mind of its own. This is getting us moving without even thinking about it and keeping us active in a different way.
In the afternoon we got out into the garden and enjoyed the sun with our fellow friends, this was nice to all sit together and enjoy the sun as well as having a good chat. Some of us including myself sat inside and enjoyed a game of dominos. This gets our competitive side out as well as thinking of the best tactic to win.
Saturday was a quiet day of us all we all very sleepy as we had had such a busy week full of different activities. We started off the morning with some western themed crafts, we could either decorate the sheets or draw our very own cowboys. We got to enjoy the sun as it was very warm out, we walked about in the garden making the most of the warm weather.
Sunday, we went to church and gathered around and enjoyed a service, this was a different experience for us all as it was a live stream on the tv but we sung along to the hymn and thoroughly enjoyed it.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a giant crossword this gets us thinking and helps stimulate the brain. We also got to enjoy one to one chat with our carers and the activity lady, this is good for us all as it helps get things off our chest that sometimes we keep in. it is also good for us as some of us don’t like coming out of our rooms and to have a chat with someone is always so nice.
